    Hi there Linda,

Having an amazingly informative time on my rounds, first time out and have experienced so much and the realisation that there is also so much more. Just wondeing if you can offer any advice, as i have been given the opportunity to teach a couple of small group literacy lessons. Its a little daunting, especially doing the lesson plan for the first time. One of the session is focused on spelling in particular words with ck or k. Was wondering if you have any advice as it is an area that i am unfamilar with yet i.e. are ther any special rules or nuiaunces with these letters etc. Have a work sheet etc for them to work with but was hoping to add a little more to thier understanding if there is anything. Just thought i would ask. Oh it Grade three by the way.

See you have had some time to flesh out your Blog, it looking good. I am going to try your chocalate exercise with my grade threes.

    Thanks Phil

    Hey Phil,

Thanks for the message and glad you’re having a great time! hmmm. ck or k … my first advice is to link it to a topic they’ve been working on, if poss, or add an activity with lots of ck or k words ..

eg drama – in groups, kids pick out 3 ‘ck’ or ‘k’ cards (you’ve written out first) and have to present a story or skit linking the words (suppose they pick up – at random – ’sock’ ‘rock’ and ‘poke’). you demonstrate it first – get the kids to pick your cards and ham it up at how on earth you’re going to link your cards then act something out.

hows that to get you started?
