In response to a number of queries from soon-to-graduate teacher education students (and those who like to prepare well ahead of time), here’s a great resource to help you put together a professional portfolio for teaching. It has been developed by staff in the School of Education at the University of New England http://fehps.une.edu.au/Education/portfolio.pdf
If you are a recent graduate or experienced teacher with a professional portfolio you are willing to ’showcase’ here (minus the personal details of course), many student teachers would greatly appreciate your generosity. Seeing a finished product or exemplar is a great way to understand what is required. So, if you’re willing, please let us know.
You’ll notice that I’ve added a category ‘Graduating soon?’ where I’ve added the above link and will continue to add resources.

this is very useful indeed. My portfolio is one of those things I have all the intention in the world of creating but, as yet, have done nothing.

Hi Mark (and world!). I am encouraging my students to establish a blog as an electronic portfolio. Edublogs (what I’m using here) is free for teachers or education students such as yourself. See the posts under ‘learning to blog’ on this site for the link to edublogs and a little advice about tutorials available there. Edublogs uses WordPress which gives you access to a number of great themes and others you can download to customise your site.
Also, as luck would have it, just received a message from Chalkies advertising a session on Portfolios! (must be the time of the year). Here are the details in case you don’t already have them. This session’s taking place in Melbourne, so I guess you could find out what is happening in your neck of the woods at Waurn Ponds campus.
Chalkies message states:
“What is the Education Portfolio? We keep hearing about, but aren’t sure what is involved. Great for all years of education students to attend as the information is current and up to date presented by a forth year student. Find out what the lecturers and tutors haven’t covered yet!!
