Current research
I am currently working with university colleagues and an Industry Partner, Deaf Children Australia, on a three-year study funded by the Australian Research Council. The study examines the use of cochlear implantation in deaf children (see details on the links to the right of this page).
Future research
Plans for future research include two key foci:
- continuing investigation of the implications of policies and practices (educational, legal and biomedical) on the lives of deaf people; and
- teacher education: including the rights and access of students with disabilities to education and professional practice.
Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Student supervision
My supervision of HDR students is in two key areas:
- special needs education, and
- literacy education.
Doctoral students who have completed or are undertaking research under my supervision include:
- Dr Margaret McLean (PhD awarded May 2006)
- Intha Chetty
- Chi-Cheng Wu
- Leigh Kurth (APAI for ARC project)
